The story continues.
This is the final part of my Proto Vampire exploration tthe first moment when the casket is opened.
I wanted to capture that initial shock. Not a noble vampire. Not a romanticized undead.
But a devouring organism.
A corrupting presence.
The Proto Vampire is not fully separate from its victim. It does not simply inhabit a body, it merges with it. There is a deviant symbiosis between parasite and host. Only fragments of the man that once existed remain visible beneath the flesh. A glimpse of something human… almost erased.
For this piece I used several organic references:
Flesh-eating flowers
The corpse flower (Rafflesia inspiration)
Leeches and parasitic anatomy
Individually, these references are repulsive. Together, they formed a composition that felt disturbingly coherent i would say, beautiful and grotesque at the same time.
This project is part of my ongoing project started many years ago, "Vampires-Origin" illustrated book covering vampires and real and raw stories, explorations and myths taken from the lips of the people
